Opportunities
Fun Run Volunteers needed!
We have opportunities for people from all
walks of life. Volunteers can befriend clients
at our projects or visit those isolated in
their own homes or even develop their IT and
admin skills at our Head Office.
For clients recovering from mental health
problems who want to make a contribution,
we provide a support for them to volunteer
either in our projects or in other local agencies.
Here is a small sample of tasks that volunteers
can do:
• Befriending individual residents,
visiting regularly
• Escorting a resident on a regular
basis to an adult education class, day centre,
or café, cinema or swimming pool.
• Enabling a resident or group of residents
to follow an interest such as cookery, painting,
board games by leading the activity or simply
taking part.
• Acting as an advocate for a service
user
• Accompanying groups of residents on
outings and holidays
• Assisting with office administration
• Helping with fundraising and publicity
Supporting volunteers
Induction and training: All volunteers receive
Umbrella’s induction training, including
visits to various projects where they may
work. Training needs are assessed and the
appropriate training is provided.
Support and supervision: Each volunteer has
regular supervision with a key contact in
the project where he or she is placed. Volunteers
are invited to all our social events and Umbrella

Expenses: Volunteers are not paid but can
claim travel and other out of pocket expenses
e.g. lunch
