they simply need someone to talk to, support,

The chances are that you will know someone
who suffers from mental health problems or
a diagnosed mental illness.
Why we need your support
The causes of mental illness or (undiagnosed)
mental health problems do not stem from any
single source. However, problems in childhood
and adolescence, whether hereditary or of
a psycho-social nature, coupled with the stresses
of every day living will predispose some of
us to “break down”, to use the
every day term.
People with severe mental illness can face
a lifetime of isolation, social stigma, fear
and a poor quality of life. In response Umbrella
focuses on giving people the right level of
care and support to improve their quality
of life. This can be through providing care
homes, supported hostels, offering community
or vocational support in their own homes,
or setting up training and social firms.
In Central & North London, there is a
higher concentration of people with mental
health needs than in most of the UK. Even
for people recovering from mental health problems,
studies show that only 15% who want to work
have access to employment. Many face a lifetime
of poverty, social isolation and social exclusion.
To continue providing a quality service, we
need your help. This may be in the form of
financial support, volunteering, or simply
raising awareness of the needs of people with
mental health problems.
